Thank you sir for providing this list of books topic by topic..
i still have some doubt about either interpretation of topic
1) what does interpretation of wave function means ;; is it just Born interpretation about calculating the probability of wave function or something else
2)there are many ways to calculate the radius ratio which one i should follow
3)which equations are there in equation of state of real gases (other than vdW and virial)if any imp.
4) in case of thermodynamics do i need to prepare the variation in S, G, H etc for real gases along with ideal
5)For what does these "α and β" stand for
6)what about double layer at interface
7) what is the modifications in the CFT
sir these are the pints i am worried of.. please clarify them
Thank you

Sir,
Thanks for giving references descriptivel.Could u please more elaborate, if possible, by just adding small words like out of these total reference which one should be taken core (ie to read complete chapter) and which one for selecting/ sorting out problems ONLY (if there is any scope though i think u have given very judiciously and elaborately)eg

4 (i) Preparation and Properties of Polymers:

Is The book "Photochemistry And Pericyclic Reactions by Jaya Singh and Jagdamba Singh…" u have refereed is for both pericylic and photochenmistry OR there r two books by same author on Pericyclic and photochem seperately ???

Abhijeet Agrawal said...

To Mr. Don...The syllabus for Polymer topic is quite vague and it is very difficult to assign any particular book as core book for the polymers as all these books contain some good concepts different than the other...so it would be better if u can go through all of them....in every book (that i mentioned in the blog) there are only 1-2 chapter relating to polymer so it can be easily covered....

Abhijeet Agrawal said...

Mr.Don
You may get Mr.R.K.Singh's notes for Chemistry from Jia Sarai(near IIT Delhi)....The book for "Photochemistry And Pericyclic Reactions" by Jaya Singh and Jagdamba Singh is a single book covering all the topics of Photochemistry And Pericyclic Reactions together....

Unknown said...

Thanks sir.
Regarding notes of RK sir, we have to get printed notes or classnotes And the same we can get from jawahar book depo in jia sarai or from coaching centre itself we have to take.

How many numbers u attempted correctly in ur 2006, 2007 and 2009 cse attempt and how much u scored.Could u please provide the guidelines abt the same.
Please publish ur interview esp qxts from chemistry raised to u and the probable/likely qxts from ur experience ur view etc as u are the only one whom i could find providing not only guidance but excellent guidance for chemistry.I have to rely solely on u.
If u could hav given me ur mobile no. it'd be of gr8 help.

To Mr.Don..Notes of Mr.R.K.Singh may be available in the Photocopy shops of Jia Sarai or they can be obtained from DIAS(http://www.diasindia.com/) coaching directly...In paper-1 these notes are not sufficient(as they were made from PSP, Brilliant notes) and they should be supplemented with other books that i have mentioned in the strategy for Paper-1....The notes do not cover many topics like: Co-ordination Chemistry, Liquid State,Main Group Chemistry, some portions of Electrochemistry...also notes do not cover new topics & new concepts that have appeared in recent CS and IFS exams... so these notes require a lot of additions...
But they form a good foundation for the paper-1 as it will be difficult to make notes for the whole paper-1 from scratch.....
Best strategy will be to read the reference books and add new topics to the notes...
For paper-2 it would be advisable to make notes of your own....u can make a file of organic chemistry where u can keep on adding new concepts and examples, under different heads like Reagents, Name reactions,Reaction mechanisms, Pericyclic reactions etc....
this will help in the quick revision of the whole syllabus....

Abhijeet Agrawal said...

Normon and Coxon and S H Pine are not available in the internet so u will have to buy a hard copy of the same....
My final score and correct attempt paper wise is(in different years):
2006: Paper I: I got 171/300. Correct attempt was approx 240/300. Paper II: I got 134/300. Correct attempt was around 180-190/300.

2007: Paper I: I got 177/300. Correct attempt was 250-260/300. Paper II: I got 133/300. Correct attempt was around 180-190/300.

2008: Paper I: I got 200/300. Correct attempt was 300/300.
Paper II: I got 191/300. Correct attempt was around 230-240/300.

You can refer to my earlier interview blog of 2008 where i have listed down the questions that were asked from Chemistry....
regarding the probable questions:
1. prepare basic laws & concepts
from 6-10 NCERT of Chemistry...
2. Little knowledge about the latest nobel Prize winner in Chemistry....
3. If u have done/doing higher studies in Chemistry then some information regarding your work...

Sir,
1.when willu publish ur interview-2009 and ur complete marksheet
2.What was ur strategy in cse, to put maximum effort in science optional (to score more than 400)and minimal handsome score in GS (say 250-300) OR a balanced score in all.Wats in ur opinion is gud for candidate choosing chemistry and pub admin- to maximise score in chemistry by putting maximum effort to it or have a balanced score in all GS and two optional.I am asking these qxns with reference to ur high score in chemistry (and high scores of prakash rajpurohit rank2) (ur score in physics and GS i dont know) and pattern of chemistry which looks harder u work higher u score??
3.Where in delhi i can get co aspirant with chemistry? (OR Do people form gp for science optional or it is very rare; people prefer self study)
4.Is it worth to take some test series for chemistry OR no need just solve as many qns as possible fm the book u refered

Unknown said...

Sir,
In paper2 i think in 2006 or 2007 or before, Questions fm polymer part were asked for silicones, etc which is not mentioned in current syllabus OR before 3 yrs back they were in syllabus or this is strategy of upsc to put some out of syllabus material in exam?
2.Glyptal resin was asked and other why DNA get pptd?
these type of qns can be answered or few qns are always asked which we cant naswer??
Please suggest abt the same.

Abhijeet Agrawal said...

Hi...
I was out of station so i could not reply back...
I had already posted my marks on my blog so u can go through that...
The mentioned books are available in 1. Universal Book Store Nai Sarak,
New Delhi,
2. Agrawal book Centre, New Delhi
3. Jawahar book depot, New Delhi
regarding the strategy of scoring marks in Civil Services..most important strategy is to have balance marks but it is very difficult to obtain the balanced marks in the exam...i will not recommend u to give too much of the extra effort on Chemistry as compared to G.S. because it may turnout to be counterproductive....
My marks in Civil has no direct correlation with the efforts that i had put in the three subjects( it is not that i had not given proper attention to G.S.)..so please do not make any particular strategy for scoring rather try & prepare all sujects throughly...please do not try to follow the pattern that this year 2nd ranker had followed...because this kind of score do not come easily in the current times..and that guy was extraordinary genius that is why he could score this kind of marks in both the optionals...such scores come once in 10 years...so draw ur own strategy keeping ur level of preparation in mind....
In Chemistry around 100-120 aspirants only appear..so it is very difficult to find any one who is preparing with chemistry as an optional..so u will have to prepare by ur own...regarding joining of the test series, it all depends on ur level of preparation...If u have mastered the syllabus then there is no need for the test series...
Regarding Polymer old questions: prepare the basic syllabus of polymer and do not focus too much on stray question as these are not meant to be attempted...whatso ever u prepare there will be some questions which will be out of reach....

Hello Mr. Abhijeet,

Thanks for posting such an informative post on references for Chemistry optional. My optionals are same as yours Physics & Chemistry. I'm also from IIT.

Actually, I'm lost & completely confused after reading this post. In your first post on Paper2 "My Strategy for Chemistry Paper-2" you gave a list of 10 books. Fine till then. In this post when you elaborated topic wise you have mentioned around 10 new books which were not there in your earlier list. Do you mean to say, we need to read 20 books (ofcourse not cover to cover) for just Paper2 of chemistry? Most of these books are by foriegn authors. They are very costly. Is reading from so many books essential? How much difference does it make? Did you purchase all these books? If you have to cut down and make this list short, what all books you'll remove from this list?

congrats sir,i m going to pass out from iit delhi, sir i m in dillema wheather to do job or not ,i m also a secy we,sir is it very much neccesary to do job....does job experience affect our interview marks......what u have done after ur graduation(if u dont mind)....????

Abhijeet Agrawal said...

Hi Ankur,
whether u want to take up job or not,has to be purely ur own decision....if u want to get a flavour of the corporate structure then u may take up a job, n prepare for civils while being in the job....In interview, work experience helps to some extent but not to a greater extent.....
well i did not take up a job after graduation n came directly to Delhi for preparation....if some one is not working and he is not selected in 2 attempts then huge pressure builds....
so if u can prepare while being in job then nothing can be better than this....

INDIA-BANGLADESH RELATIONS

India and Bangladesh, neighbors for 4,000 kilometers, share a strong bond from their joint fight for independence, especially during the 1971 Bangladesh Liberation War. This history turned into a solid partnership involving culture, economy, and diplomacy. Recent efforts like the Maitree Express and Integrated Check Post show growing economic teamwork. Agreements like the Ganges Water Sharing Treaty highlight joint commitment to resource sustainability. Despite challenges, the India-Bangladesh relationship remains strong, supporting stability and progress in South Asia.
